Daydreams
Studies show that we all have the tendency to be lost is solitary thought or daydream an average of one to two hours a day. Day dreaming is an unawareness of ones surroundings, classified as a level of consciousness between sleep and wakefulness. It occurs during our waking hours when we enter into a mild trance state, inviting our imagination carry us away into illusions or visions. As our minds begin to wander and our level of awareness decreases, we lose ourselves in our imagined scenario and fantasy. Daydreaming can be used to gain new options or insights, enter into peace and relieve stressful situations.

Daydreams require an imagination. Before we were reconciled to Jesus, we were in the world and we entertained those things of which the Bible now exhorts us, saying that we are to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. But not all imaginations are bad. The Bible says to set your mind on things above where Christ is. I do daydream sometimes, and the Lord has shown me, through the discerning of spirits, when I am entertaining something that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. I have learned that if I daydream about God as a bride dreams of her lover, the Lord will even interject thoughts and revelations into that time, and as I meditate on His truth, the fragrance of His anointing comes near, even to the point where if I were to speak those thoughts and words, the fragrance of His presence would spill out on my breath. (He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.) But if I think on ungodly things, the spirit associated with such things comes near, and it is never good. To feel and sense and understand and see sin as God sees it has revealed this: that it is such a rotten, putrid, stifling, nauseous stench - I have fled from it like Joseph from Potiphar's wife.
A dream and a vision is a gift from God. You cannot make God speak to you. But a daydream that is initiated by man is the product of his own fancy. Jesus said that is that which proceeds from the heart of man that defiles him. If you have a vivid imagination and find yourself daydreaming a lot, it is probable that the Lord has ordained for you a seer gift and once you identify that, you can begin to properly develop that gift properly through intercession as a watchman. If I find myself daydreaming, it is either because I am bored to tears, or I haven't been spending time with God enough lately, and the satisfaction that comes through communion with God is becoming a thing of the past, and what i really need to do is return to the Lord.

Dear Dave you make some good points but the Bible doesn't say to cast down Imaginations but Vain imaginations, those are the ones that try to exault themselves above God's plans and purposes for our lives. These come out of a heart of fantasy or falsehood or possibly mans traditions that nullify the power of God. As our minds and hearts are renewed through applying His word and developing an intimate relationship we are able to rightly discern if our thoughts are coming from Holy Spirit or our our soulish desires. Also when a spirit of peace comes upon us as our thought reflect on the Lord he is able to speak new revelation and insights into our spirit. It all goes back to what or who is our source and motivation. I agree that day dreaming can help to develop ones seers gift. Dave thanks for sharing. Barbie

I like what you said about the spirit of peace. It's hard to hear when the soul isn't quieted. That fits rather interestingly with what I said about daydreaming due to extreme boredom: sometimes we are so used to a certain level of stress in our lives that when God's peace takes over, we find it so foreign that we interpret it as boredom. Anxious thoughts and daydreams only stir up the soul, making it difficult to hear God.

Dave you are right! Sometime we become so accustomed to stress that when God's peace comes on us we feel guilty for falling asleep or day dreaming when that is what he wants us to do so he can speak to us. He has called us as human beings not human doings. So to just be in His presence is enough and to experience His love and love Him back is the greatest calling. Barbie

to comment on Dave's reason why we "probably" daydream, there doesn't always have to be a religious tag applied. Simply looking through the lens of MBTI, every human perceives the world as a senser or intuitive. Where sensers focus on WHAT IS, intuitives are focused on WHAT COULD BE...hence daydreaming. Now, this is where it's important to "take every thought captive" and "fix our eyes on Jesus", etc. This is where we need to be teaching our (intuitive) children to use their sanctified imaginations to soak and meditate on the heavenly things (colossians).
As an intuitive myself, part of my personal training (mostly fitness) "ministry" involves counseling people and coaching people (often non-believers) into using their God-given personality and focusing on their strengths while learning to recognize and minimize their weaknesses. Daydreaming does not have to be boredom but it is simply the way we are constantly processing the world and what's happening (or not happening, lol). This is where visionaries excel...their eye is always on what could be. However, they need someone with the gift of administration to help implement it. ;o)
This is why it's so important for us to understand that the "body" has many parts and Jesus knew that we would need to be united in SPIRIT rather than mind, agreement or anything else. He allowed for our differences and various giftings (both physical and Spirit-manifested) to be different from everyone else's. My hope is that we won't try to make daydreaming, visions or any other byproduct of the dynamics of God interacting with his beloved, a one-size-fits-all approach.
Anyway, i'm rambling but this is a great discussion. Thanks for your comments, Barbie. My pastor's wife, Tara S., went through your dream interpretation courses and just loved them.
